Double bubble secondary building units used as a structural motif for enhanced electron–hole separation in solids
نویسندگان
چکیده
A structural motif designed for enhancing electron–hole separation in semiconducting composite materials, the so-called double bubble, is introduced. The addition of silicon carbide in the construction of heterogeneous double bubble systems, along with zinc oxide and gallium nitride, yields electronic structures that are favourable for electron–hole separation. The standard formation enthalpies of such systems are comparable with those of fullerenes, suggesting that these systems would be achievable and of direct benefit to photovoltaic and electrochemical applications such as water splitting; with the (SiC)12@(ZnO)48 proving to be the most promising building block for future functional composite materials. & 2015 The Authors. Double bubbles: a new structural motif for enhanced electron-hole separation in solids.
Electron-hole separation for novel composite systems comprised of secondary building units formed from different compounds is investigated with the aim of finding suitable materials for photocatalysis. Pure and mixed SOD and LTA superlattices of (ZnO)12 and (GaN)12, single-shell bubbles are constructed as well as core@shell single component frameworks composed of larger (ZnO)48 and (GaN)48 bubb...
متن کاملMeasuring The Quality Of Natural Lighting In A Building With Double Skin Façade (Dsf)
Lately, a double skin façade (DSF) has been increasingly popular as an aesthetic and shading device. A façade with a secondary skin is employed in buildings to let natural light flow into the building without glare and heat. The purpose of this study is to examine the performance of secondary skin in buildings and to investigate the level of natural lighting in buildings that meets visual comfo...
متن کاملNumerical Study of Bubble Separation and Motion Using Lattice Boltzmann Method
In present paper acombination of three-dimensional isothermal and two-dimensional non-isothermal Lattice Boltzmann Method have been used to simulate the motion of bubble and effect of wetting properties of the surface on bubble separation. By combining these models, three-dimensional model has been used in two-dimension for decreasing the computational cost. Firstly, it has been ensured that th...
متن کاملHeat transfer enhancement due to air bubble injection into a horizontal double pipe heat exchanger
If an air flow is injected into a liquid fluid, many ambulant air bubbles are formed inside the fluid. Air bubbles move inside the liquid fluid because of the buoyancy force, and the mobility of these air bubbles makes sizable commixture and turbulence inside the fluid. This mechanism was employed to enhance the heat transfer rate of a horizontal double pipe heat exchanger in this paper. Howeve...
متن کاملRole of supramolecular synthons in the formation of the supramolecular architecture of molecular crystals revisited from an energetic viewpoint.
Analysis of the strengths and directionality of intermolecular interactions in the crystals containing only one type of supramolecular synthon allows the suggestion of a general classification of molecular crystals depending on type of their basic structural motifs. All crystals may be divided on four classes namely (I) crystals with isotropic packing of the building units; (II) columnar crysta...
